I personally use an exercise bike.

It is convenient having the exercise bike in my home-office and was not too expensive to purchase.

I use my exercise bike on a regular basis at least once a day. You don’t have to do a cycle marathon to feel the benefits, little and often seems to be the best option for me.  I have found it is possible to actually do some work whilst peddling, writing on a tablet for instance, but I prefer to listen to the local radio station or maybe a podcast.

Do you own an exercise bike or any other sort of fitness equipment?

Resistant Starch Have your Pasta and Eat It

In a previous post I showed you how to make your own pasta with a food processor.

Pasta Making Machine
Pasta Making Machine

This post will explain how with the aid of resistant starch you can have your pasta and eat it in moderation of course.

Pasta, white bread and white rice, contain ample amounts of  carbs and as we all know too many carbohydrates are bad for the waistline.

Now what if you could have your carbs and eat them almost guilt free?

A partial answer is resistant starch.

The trick is to cook your pasta or rice and then  cool it and reheat it making very sure that rice in particular is piping hot all the way through.

This process alters the structure of the rice or pasta and turns it into resistant starch, which is much harder for your body to break down and so making your body treat the food more like a fiber food.  Keeping you feeling fuller for longer. This process also works for baked potatoes.

Pasta Eggs Flour

The trick with sliced white bread is to freeze it first and toast it from frozen this will also alter the structure of the bread and make it more like a fiber food.

Rangemaster Cookers Review and things to watch out for

The first choice to be made is mostly dependent on the  fuel supply to your kitchen.  Rangemaster cookers can be  all electric, all gas or a mixture of both in the duel fuel appliance combination.

It is important to check that the oven or ovens on the appliance both show an accurate operating temperature and heat up quickly when switched on. Also if possible check for even heating of the oven space.

The hob can also be gas, electric or a combination of both.

If it is electric check that the rings can they simmer some electrically powered  hobs have a nasty habit of not having a variable enough temperature setting.

Make sure the grill will evenly cook across its entire surface.

Again like the oven check the time the grill takes to heat up.  (continued below)…

Reasons to have an Electric Recliner Chair

A couple of good reasons to have a recliner chair are if you value luxurious comfort during the day or cannot sleep comfortably in a standard bed by night.

One step up from a manual recliner chair is an electric recliner chair with the ability to raise you to a standing position with a remote control.

Some of the electric chairs can move you from an almost prone lying down position to a standing position with no effort required from the user whatsoever, other than pressing a button on the remote control. This is very useful if you have any sort of difficulty moving into a standing position unaided.

Personally I found a recliner chair an absolute godsend after I’d had open heart surgery and was allowed home from the hospital for the first time. I found I was not able to sleep in a regular bed for the first month or so and the recliner chair was, to put it bluntly, an absolute lifesaver, being able to lay back and sleep combined with not having to struggle to get out of the chair was absolutely bliss!

How much does it cost to run a Slow Cooker

Today we have the staple of the kitchen, the slow cooker….
Slow cooking with a slow cooker or crock pot as they are know in the USA is an excellent way of preparing a meal for later consumption.
A quick beef stew can be prepared within half an hour and left to cook for hours, while you are otherwise engaged be it at work or play. Safe in the knowledge that you will have a hot nutritious meal waiting for you upon your return.

How much does it cost to run a Slow Cooker?

The answer is … A whole lot less than a conventional oven.

A small approximately 60w slow cooker will cost around 0.11p (GBP) to run for eight hours. To work out how much it will cost for different slow cookers you need to find the wattage of the slow cooker. (look for a label somewhere on the appliance normally marked W). The formula for working out the exact power consumption cost of an 80w slow cooker is…. divide the power in watts (W) by 1000 to convert to kilowatts (kW).

So 80/1000 = 0.08kW.

To calculate the energy used you need to multiply its rating in kW by the time it is on for, in hours, so for example, for 7 hours cooking time it would use:

7 x 0.08 = 0.56 kWh.

You can get the cost of a kWh from your electricity bill, but typically around 12p/kWh so for this example:

0.56 x 12 = 6.72 pence to run an 80W slow cooker for 7 hours.

So as you can see a slow cooker can not only save you time but also money.
